Laggy Playback on Ubuntu
« am: Oktober 12, 2009, 05:39:04 Nachmittag »
Hi there,

after trying DVB-T on win7 without any success. I have now also problems under linux (latest ubuntu).
Analogue works fine using tv-time, but playback for DVB-T does not work.
I can detect all channels, no problem here, but the playback does not work.
I tried now several applications, the only app which works is me-tv until I try to change the channel.
Kaffeine and mplayer no go, argh this is becoming frustrating!!
PLEASE HELP!
Here the output of the mplayer.

           **** Your system is too SLOW to play this!  ****
           ************************************************

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
  - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
  - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
  - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
  - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
    e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
- Broken file
  - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
  - Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
  - Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html for tuning/speedup tips.
If none of this helps you, read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.

Try to use kaffeine (it's much easier and very comfortable to use, also see the documentation in the "Software" board), for mplayer you should add the parameter "-cache 10240" this "Laggy" bug comes from mplayer.

http://support.sundtek.de/index.php/board,10.0.html

What is the output of kaffeine? What version?
Maybe the Codecs are missing?

With kaffeine please also check the Signalstrength of your channels (you might adjust your antenna)

Do you have any other application accessing the DVB Device? For example vdr or mythtv-backend in the background?

$ sudo /etc/init.d/vdr stop
$ sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop
$ ps fax | grep -i vdr
$ ps fax | grep -i myth

if one of them is running stop them before using kaffeine or mplayer

Are you using the 091009 drivers?

http://support.sundtek.de/index.php/topic,133.0.html

How about the signal strength? (you can open the channel scan tab in kaffeine again and it will show up the signal strength for the currently tuned channel)

We received a similar report from another user, claiming that when VDR was running in the background the video stops with Kaffeine. But this has been the nature of VDR and is out of our scope. That for it has to be stopped or the device has to be plugged in after VDR got loaded.

You might also contact our technical skype support chat "Sundtek"

Especially Ubuntu has been tested for weeks(!) on Netbooks now

Newest driver did the job!
Did the mistake of downloading the driver from the webpage instead the forum->driver section.
Thank you very much!
