Thanks for the very quick reply. You're right, as usual. I used w_scan to tune and then mplayer and it worked so I'll have to try troubleshooting in MythTV.

Hi,

I bought a SkyTV Ultimate III about 8 years ago but after I updated my OS a couple of years ago I was unable to use the device. Only now have I found the time to return to this problem.

My OS is openSUSE Leap 15.2 and I would like to use the device with MythTV. When I try to tune to the channels I get the failure "Error parsing parameters".

After digging around I find (ls /dev/dvb/adapter0 -la) that the permissions are owner: root, group:root. I was expecting it to be owner:root, group:video because in file 50-udev-default.rules I have the line SUBSYSTEM=="dvb", GROUP="video". If I log in as root, I can use the device.

Can anyone please advise me how to get it working again.

Solved.

In openSUSE, there is something called lvm2-activation-generator
which is invoked by 2 service files: lvm2-activation-early.service and
lvm2-activation.service.

I have no idea why installing the Sundtek driver causes a problem with these but as I don't use LVM, I've followed the advice to mask these two services and now my boot time is back to a few seconds.

The commands to disable them (as root):

I have recently updated to OpenSuse 13.2 (complete re-installation) on a 64 bit computer.
After I installed the Sundtek driver for my Sundtek USB DVB-S/S2, booting now takes
3 minutes. If I remove the driver, the boot process is again very fast. With
the same device on the same computer running OpenSuse 12.2, I had no problems, it
installed easily & had no problems.
Can anyone please help or advise what to do?

Success! I rebuilt Kaffeine with the patches.

I've now noticed that this topic is already in these forum pages as several threads (auf Deutsch). (Ich muss mein Deutsch verbessern).
I found the thread titled "HOWTO: Kaffeine patch .diff" useful.

In summary I downloaded the Kaffeine code with git, applied the sundtek_0.3.diff patch with the patch command and then rebuilt kaffeine as instructed by the README file.

Kaffeine now plays DVDs & TV perfectly - with VAAPI - I might add.

I've tried Ubuntu & Kubuntu and I prefer OpenSuse. It seems to me that it's better supported and has a more responsive forum.

Yes, I've spent many hours trying to install missing plugins & codecs. As a newbie, I'm stumped. I've followed loads of advice on other forums and downloaded all sorts of packages (literally hundreds of items) and nothing has worked. I'm now very frustrated. I've now no idea what to install from where & how. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought a Sundtek SkyTV USB DVB-S/S2 and found that in Kaffeine there was no device detected.
Markus (at Sundtek) kindly sent me this info:

opensuse requires some modified kaffeine Version, someone already updated suse packages:
The repositories are here:

So I added these to my repositories and reinstalled Kaffeine.
The device is now recognised and I have tuned it but when I try to play TV I get the message:

Cannot find demux plugin for MRL "fifo:/home/mike/.kde4/share/apps/kaffeine/dvbpipe.m2t".Also I cannot play DVDs any more - I get the message:
