Heat disipator for Sundtek Gold

Hello,

I own a Sundtek Gold TV Tuner, I am currently using it with tvheadend on a Synology DS412+ with great results, the only problem is that it get really really hot, as tvheadend is always polling for EPG updates, the device has no option to go into standby. I am thinking that maybe that so much heat is going to damage the sundtek, so I was planning to add some kind of disipator, maybe some big mosfet or similar dissipator would be enough, would be any problem if I open the device to add the dissipator? is there anything soldered to the plastic casing that will break when opening it?

As long as you only touch the chip with the heatsink it should be okay. Your Stick/hottest Part/Chip should have a temperature of around 50-55°C which is within the specification. For permanent use just removing the plastic will already bring you some benefit due better air circulation on the surface.

The next version of that device is specified at 36°C.
