Hallo,

My Linux is Mint 16 or 17 Mate.

As long as suntek sw/driver for mediatv pro is installed,  vlc is unable to open some directory ("plylist is empty").
As i remove the driver (sundtek_installer_development.sh  -u ),  it runs ok.
Maybe the problem concerns directoriies whose name contains some 'arithmetic' symbol: - or () etc.

Is this 32bit or 64bit? We don't seem to have that issue with 64bit.
Can you give a full example of a directory which cannot be played?

/home/sundtek/Sundtek (playlist)+Test

just works.

Mint 17  Mate 64 bit.

Directories that cause the error:
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - 4 Way Street (disc 2)
Buena Vista Social - Club Buena Vista Social Club
and many more.

But it is not so simple:
This one is opened correctley:    Canned Heat - The Very Best of Canned Heat
I renamed the former one (Crosby...) to    Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young 4 Way Street (disc 2)   (ie without -) and vlc opens it ok.
I copied   Buena Vista Social - Club Buena Vista Social Club   with the same name to a different directory in  the same file system and vlc open it ok.
I unistalled the driver and all diretories are opened ok.

Can you try to put one file into a directory and give us the full path including filename, we cannot reproduce that here.
You can also tell us via skype (sundtek) no need to post your playlist in public here, or just use some testnames

Maybe i've got a better result:

when the driver is installed, the maximum length of the path passed to vlc, after expansion of symlinks and includig slashes (but the last one), is of 100 chars.

No matter of special/arithmetic characters as i tought.
For example:
/home/12/12345/12/1234/123456789+123456789+/123456789-123456789-123456789-/123456789+123456789+12345/ is ok. With one char more, error.

That's it there's a limit of 100 chars, we updated it to 200 chars now, update will follow in 30 minutes
