Streaming Synology NAS to Dreambox: application tvheadend is needed?
« am: April 29, 2014, 09:59:34 Vormittag »
Good morning,

After reading a lot in this interesting forum regarding Synology NAS systems, i am eager to give it a try myself.

-In my DS413j i downloaded in the Community section Sundtek package and installed it succesfully
-For Dreambox DM800SE network plugin has been installed and rights were configured (as well in the NAS)
-I purchased a second hand Sundtek DVB-C/T USB stick (silver, it is said to be one year old)

What is confusing me, is the (needed?) use of the application "tvheadend" of which is often spoken in many topics.
Do i really need tvheadend just for streaming DVB-C channels to the Dreambox or is Sundtek-package sufficient?

I hope somebody could help me in this matter
Thank you in advance

It's rather easy, the streaming support you need to enable on the console on the NAS.

Connect via telnet (For example with  Putty) as root and run:

echo "enable_network=on" > /etc/sundtek.conf

afterwards restart the driver in the webfrontend.

After that you can go to your Dreambox and either enter the IP of the NAS in the Sundtek Control Center or do a Network Scan (also in the Sundtek Control Center).

TVHeadend is not needed for that, that functionality is within our driver.

Thank you so much for quick responding.
It seems rather uncomplicated indeed.

Please allow me one more detail...
As i mentioned in the former post i have been studying the "Synology-section" quite thorough lately.
Therefore i noticed a different Telnet command for enabling network support, i.e.:  /opt/bin/mediaclient --enablenetwork=on

Would you be as kind as to comment on this minor issue please?

On the Synology NAS things are a little bit different, our engineer is currently doing a small webinterface so you can enable the streaming server in the webinterface.

Mediaclient is located in a different directory on the Synology NAS in order to integrate correctly into the Synology Ecosystem
the path is /volume1/@appstore/sundtek/opt/bin/mediaclient (in case you really want to configure the driver from commandline).

Sorry to bother you again.
I followed your instructions, including Telnet session via Putty:   echo "enable_network=on" > /etc/sundtek.conf

But unfortunately, the Sundtek Control Center in the DM 800 does not find any IP servers.

Would you explain me what i did wrong?
After Telnet command echo "enable_network=on" > /etc/sundtek.conf  i restarted NAS via the Synology menu
Is that what you meant "restart through webfrondend" ?

Wait until we update the Synology package, you can set up the network server via Synology webfrontend then.

We just updated the Synology Installer Package, update the Synology Packages and do following steps:

You can also check if you can see the device with windows (via network):

By the way:   has the former problem with USB 3.0-ports in Synology NAS systems been solved?

We have no information regarding that one at the moment. However this problem is related to the Synology NAS USB Stack, only Synology can fix that.

We have seen it work on one Synology NAS with USB 3.0, so the USB 3.0 issues are different across different models.

Even though it was working on that particular NAS there have been some issues to get it work:
1. The device needs to be attached before booting the system
2. The driver takes 20 Seconds to load (normal driver loading time is 4 Seconds)

Hotswapping any other USB 3.0 device might affect all the USB devices on the USB Bus.
We did not experience a crash with it yet..

Thanx very much for your feedback!
Do you happen to know with which specific Synology-server this positive result was reached?

Well, once the customer gets back to us we will know; we did not ask which synology NAS was in use when we were debugging the USB 3.0 support on it; The only thing was that the USB device needed to be attached before booting the system.

Sorry to bother you again.
In the electronic shop "around the corner" they have a bargain of DS214 play at this very moment.
This model offers two 3.0 busses and unfortunately only one 2.0 USB bus.

My question: should i decide to use a second Sundtek tuner in the future, would it be possible to connect a powered Hub to this 2.0 port?
Would they both run this way, you think?

Thank you!
