ATSC MiniPCIe card?
« am: Februar 21, 2010, 02:20:33 Nachmittag »
Is there any chance that an ATSC 8-VSB version of the MiniPCIe card will be made? USA Linux laptops have very few options for internal TV tuners currently, (the only one I've been able to find that's supported is the Avermedia A307, and it's vanishingly rare), and I can guarantee that if you made such a product I would buy it in an instant.

We do have ATSC/ClearQAM/AnalogTV/FM Radio Hybrid MiniPCIe solutions fully supported with Linux and Windows (TotalMedia) (including powersaving/standby).
There are currently some internal discussions going on how to go to the market with those devices, we might be able to give a better answer to this question next week. Those devices are currently only available to business customers in Europe.

Is this with a v4l driver, or the LD_PRELOAD-based one I've seen mentioned?

v4l is the protocol that is supported by our drivers.

We have application based drivers, not kernel based ones. LD_PRELOAD is just a compatibility Layer for applications.

+ of Application based drivers:
- they work on Android systems without rooting them
- portable over various kernel versions
- unable to crash the kernel (it's an application), if something goes wrong in Kernelspace it's a Linux Kernelbug.
- drivers are available for MacOSX
- Network Streaming based on driver level is available to Win/Linux/Max
- Multiple architecture support ARM/MIPS/PPC/SH4/X86(32/64) (without recompiling)
- The drivers are out there in the field since 2008 and well supported
