Sundtek MediaTV Pro / Re:Treiber segfault
« am: April 13, 2010, 08:15:36 Vormittag »
Wir haben Ihnen einen Link und Informationen zu einer Debug Version geschickt. Sobald wir die benoetigten Informationen haben koennen wir dies auch beheben.

Fuer eventuelle Fragen koennen Sie ebenfalls unseren Support ueber Skype Chat kontaktieren (Skype Name "sundtek")

Drivers / Update 12. April 2010
« am: April 12, 2010, 10:13:14 Nachmittag »
Version: http://www.sundtek.de/media/sundtek_installer_100416.sh

Features:
* it's now possible to switch the device between bulk and isochronous transfer mode (this can work around the USB Isochronous bug which is mentioned in the installation guide which affects 2.6.26-29 and 2.6.32.9 - 2.6.33.1 for DVB)
* added option to disable filtering for MPEG-TS Null packets in order to provide the full bandwidth stream (by default filtering is enabled since mplayer cannot handle MPEG-TS Null packets and corrupts the videostream).

documentation about those features can be found at the bottom of the installation guide

General changes:
* udev will now be stopped by the service process with faulty kernels
* tvtime will also be stopped by the service thread when the stick gets unplugged
* the driver denies VBI access for MythTV since MythTV has a faulty implementation.
* audio will not be played back internally anymore for MythTV
* improved USB Bulk implementation (16. April 2010)
* added support for new Ubuntu Server device notifications (16. April 2010)

Bugfix:
* Device wakeup after device has been suspended in FM Radio Mode
* modified USB devicedetection in order to support older kernel versions again (eg. RHEL 5.4/Kernel 2.6.18)
* Bugfix in MythTV (VBI Cleanup) http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/attachment/ticket/8337/vbi_cleanup.diff
* rare problem with VDR fast zapping and bad or unlocked signal

It can also act as a networked server, but we are still improving this feature.

Unlike legacy drivers our multimediastack runs as application, mediasrv is our multimediastack which loads and manages our driver extension. It is kernel version independent, thus you can update the kernel and the driver support will not be affected.

In order to use the driver you can just follow any video4linux and dvb howto which is available on the internet. Some examples are given here:

The Sheevaplug is properly supported (our engineering has tested it with the first generation Sheevaplug).

Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Re:MythTV analog setup
« am: April 12, 2010, 01:08:24 Vormittag »
We checked analog TV with MythTV. Obviously Analog TV is currently broken in MythTV with analog TV grabbers (we also tested other tuners which have been known to be supported).
The last known working MythTV version is 0.21 (which comes with eg. Ubuntu 8.04)

With 0.22 MythTV developers disabled channel scanning
With 0.23 it's enabled again but analog TV now seems to fail (also with other TV tuners).
Additionally what we figured out is that the MythTV VBI/Videotext implementation is totally broken (it causes memory corruptions) and also influence analog TV... some more work is needed to fix analog TV Support for MythTV again. Disabling VBI doesn't seem to work MythTV will still try to access the devicenode in the background (we will report those bugs to MythTV)

We also have a bugfix queued for the new mythtv scanner, the reason that 0.23 cannot find any channel is that tuning happens too fast, we added some delay to this procedure to give the device some time to settle down at a given frequency.

Seems like it will take some time until MythTV will be fixed again... unfortunately our developers are currently busy with OSX Support after that they can have a closer look at MythTV.

The latest updated driver will find analog TV channels with 0.23 (playback still has the mentioned issues, the driver also denies the faulty VBI access from MythTV):
http://support.sundtek.com/index.php/board,9.0.html

This is the change for MythTV in order to get VBI right again (it will probably be part of MythTV 0.24):

Bitte die Logfile /var/log/mediasrv.log anhaengen sowie /opt/bin/mediaclient --build angeben.
Eventuell auch den dmesg output,
dmesg > /tmp/logfile.txt
anhaengen.

Um was fuer ein System handelt es sich?

Sowie bitte die letzte Treiberversion verwenden, es gab im letzten Monat sehr viele groessere Aenderungen (welche mittlerweile jedoch abgeschlossen sind)

Was fuer Plugins werden denn eingesetzt?

/opt/bin/mediaclient --lc sollte auch anzeigen welche Applikationen worauf zugreifen, eventuell blockiert ein Programm den Treiber?

Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Re:Any news on the Mac OSX driver?
« am: April 10, 2010, 06:35:24 Nachmittag »
I'm sorry to write but the MacOSX development is still in progress. While the driver is 100% ready we are fully working on the application for it now. (Currently our engineers are working on the Audio/Video synchronisation for digital TV)
The software is designed to work with Linux/Mac/FreeBSD/Solaris. In fact any improvement on the Linux side will also affect the other systems. When the software will be officially released the driver is already well tested.
Our Linux developers are now also working fulltime on the OSX Application the initial release is expected this month, we will also continue development and add further features after the first release.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Re:Turning off LED diode, and "downsampling" video?
« am: April 08, 2010, 04:16:05 Nachmittag »
Hi,

we will add it to the next driver release which we will provide around mid next week (14th April).

Great! My system is not exactly stable, which is possibly why I haven't yet seen the stick turn off after 15s ... quite possible that some of my software does not close right and keeps on claiming the device. So having a command to explicitly turn it off, will save hours of troubleshooting of what could be wrong with my system :)

you can check with

Zitat
/opt/bin/mediaclient --lc

which client is accessing the device.

In order to force the disconnection you can run:

Zitat
/opt/bin/mediaclient --dc [pid]
Zitat
Ok, I assume (but am not sure) that crudely the process goes:
* stick receives a frame of a given resolution
* stick packs the frame, sends it via USB
* PC/driver receives USB packet, retrieves data, unpacks frame
* PC then decodes frame

Only in case of analog TV the stick can do this. For digital TV MPEG2/4 is directly broadcasted over the air or through the cable, the stick converts this signal into a USB conform signal and the driver translates this USB Signal into a system usable format. We do not have access to the stream on videoframe level for DVB.

The LED indicates the power status of the device, when the blue led is on the device is fully powered on.

The LED will turn off after 15 seconds of inactivity (Applications accessing the DVB Stick must be closed).
Although we already received some feature requests:
* to turn off the LED manually
* to power down the device manually

we will add it to the next driver release which we will provide around mid next week (14th April).

I am using Sundtek with VLC under Ubuntu 9.10 (strangely in Kaffeine the audio does not work), and it all works fine, except I have two issues:

This is a codec issue and related to kaffeine, our software engineers are currently working on our own player (Mac/Linux) which is dedicated for those devices. This should help to avoid any codec issues in future. You might file a bugreport for Kaffeine: http://kaffeine.kde.org/?q=bugs

We are currently investigating alternative options for HDTV channels, currently it either requires an NVidia Graphiccard or a fast PC. Lowering the resolution is not useful since the entire video is encoded in HDTV and rescaling can only be done by postprocessing and adding additional CPU power to the entire process chain. Even if you rescale it the input data is always the same, the USB Stick can handle the HDTV input data without any problem.

Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Re:w_scan unsupported DVB API Version

some applications use to check the API version that's the problem, even though it's nonsense.

Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Re:w_scan unsupported DVB API Version
« am: April 07, 2010, 07:14:07 Nachmittag »
unfortunately if you set to 5.1 it will also set the API to 5.0 (it strips everything after the dot (the next driver update will take care that everything after the dot is also taken into account).

What will you lose?
> nothing, the API is backward compatible but some developers don't seem to know that.

Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Re:w_scan unsupported DVB API Version
« am: April 07, 2010, 06:36:26 Nachmittag »
your Distribution is not correctly installed (or at least there's a bug with the dvb headers).

you can try to lower the API Version with following command:

Zitat
/opt/bin/mediaclient --setver=5.0

and retry with w_scan, w_scan was packaged for the DVB API version 5.0, but our driver by default provides API support for the DVB API 5.1, it tries to detect lower versions which works with correct systems, for incorrect systems it can be set manually

what distribution do you use?

In case of tvheadend you can also ask in the tvheadend IRC channel on freenode.net where tvheadend developers and users give support to other tvheadend users we are watching it and try to help out too.
