Did you use the latest driver? The ones which we sent out by mail when we first shipped the devices didn't support MythTV or VDR.

You might retry with:

(latest driver when posting this message - 22. August 09, added ALSA emulation support for FM Transeiver).

MythTV is supported properly, it supports DVB-T, DVB-C, also AnalogTV (but we do not recommend analog TV with it right now)

Note right now you cannot switch between DVB-C and DVB-T in MythTV, the MythTV developers are currently working on this, in order to stay compatible you have to switch the device to DVB-T or DVB-C using the mediaclient commands which are also documented in the VDR howto.

We will put up a short introduction to MythTV soon, right now MythTV requires to set the devicemode using mediaclient to DVB-C or DVB-T before you start it. This will be solved with an upcoming MythTV release from the MythTV developers.

MythTV is properly supported with analogTV. DVB-T, C, analogTV including capturing is supported

This seems like a USB issue for some reason, we are grabbing a copy of Debian/Lenny for testing.
Since you're able to capture this noise directly from the driver the audio output seems to be fine. We're checking it.
Do you get any video corruptions?

When using DVB please always double check with the signal strenght.

Sidux

If you're using Sidux with the Sundtek MediaTV Pro device please run following script after the driver intsallation:

/opt/doc/lirc_install.sh

this will set up a default configuration for Lirc.

Note if this script hangs, please reboot sidux and run this script again, there's a bug in the sidux lirc script which can cause this problem, after the driver installation and sidux reboot this issue should be solved. The setup should only take a few seconds.
Also note the Ubuntu howto does not apply for Sidux.

Ubuntu

The remote control uses the uinput interface of the kernel, this interface is provided by default with ubuntu distriubtions.

1. Preparation

The lirc setup requires the IR interface of the Sundtek Remote Control

In order to figure out the correct interface for the remote control please open a console and run following command:


The driver automatically tries to load the uinput module, although if there's a problem (due too late uinput initialization) you might just restart the driver and retry this section

$ /opt/bin/mediaclient --shutdown


2. Verifying HAL (obsolete with new Linux Systems)

With Ubuntu by default HAL (the Hardware Abstraction Layer) tries to use the newly created interface, and thus disables that lirc can use that interface. In order that this does not happen please verify your HAL setup

The installer copies a configuration file to the HAL configuration directory which should avoid that HAL wil bind itself to the Sundtek remote control
/etc/hal/fdi/preprobe/sundtek.fdi

If you have a different hal setup please change this according to your system.
After the installation of the driver it's adviced to reboot Linux in order to use the updated configurations.

2. Lirc installation
$ sudo apt-get install lirc

3. Lirc configuration

If apt-get does not ask for a configuration, the reconfiguration process can be triggered by running following line:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc





Here you need to select the interface which you discovered in the first step:


We have already created a configuration for the remote control, you just have to
copy this file to the lirc configuration directory.

Wir liefern neuere Bestellungen mit einer größeren Fernbedienung aus, ältere Bestellungen wurden damals mit einer flachen Fernbedienung ausgeliefert.

Für die flache Fernbedienung folgende Keymap Kopieren:
$ sudo cp /opt/doc/sundtek.conf /etc/lircd/lircd.conf

Für die größere Videorekorder Fernbedienung diese Keymap Kopieren:
$ sudo cp /opt/doc/sundtek_vcr_remote.conf /etc/lircd/lircd.conf

Es kann sein das bei der neuen Fernbedienung der Stick noch umkonfiguriert werden muss
/opt/bin/mediaclient --updaterc=1 -d /dev/mediainput0

1 steht für das Fernbedienungslayout der größeren Fernbedienung, 0 für das Layout der kleinen Fernbedienung.
Anschließend muss der Stick jedoch neu angeschlossen werden, die Einstellung wird auf dem Stick abgespeichert und beim Laden des Treibers berücksichtigt

tvtime

tvtime is the easiest to use application for analog TV, composite and svideo

sudo apt-get install tvtime

with mediaclient you can identify your device, please note that VDR must be stopped in order to be able to use analog TV and FM radio again.

$ /opt/bin/mediaclient -e

Can you send an audio sample to kontakt at sundtek de?

Just run following:
cat /dev/video[n] | lame - test.mp3
while tvtime is running


Do you have pulseaudio running?

Maybe also tune to a channel manually as described in the Installation and capture a sample stream

cat /dev/dvb/adapter[n]/dvr0 > test.ts

Maybe if possible can you upload a copy of that stream so we can have a look at it?

Please try to uninstall the driver
./empia_installer.sh -u

and reinstall the latest version, we had that overflow issue in earlier versions (it was caused by unsynchronised reads of MPEG data and kaffeine couldn't find out the correct boundaries and interpreted the wrong offsets of the stream). Be sure you can see the Signal strength with kaffeine, only the latest driver version supports this

* What system are you using (32 or 64 bit)?
* What kaffeine Version do you use?

Following is what we get when using kaffeine:

Please verify your signal strength with kaffeine, the linux/xine demuxer might not be as flexible and error resistant as the Windows MPEG Codec.

You do not need to switch the mode back from DVB-T/C to analog TV it is enough to close the DVB application and start tvtime, this is due compatibility to existing Linux Applications.
DVB is visible with /dev/dvb/adapter* interfaces, the driver automatically recognizes if someone wants to switch back to video by accessing the /dev/video* interfaces.

Please note a system reboot should never be required. You can just kill and restart the driver by running.
