Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Sundtek MediaTV Digital Home doesn't work
« am: Juli 26, 2011, 02:37:10 Nachmittag »
I have recently bought a Sundtek MediaTV Digital Home usb tv tuner. I can't get it to work properly. Hopefully it is not DOA product. Perhaps someone here can help me fix it.

Some facts:
OS: Ubuntu 11.04
Driver: http://www.sundtek.de/media/sundtek_installer_110414.0139.sh
Location: Netherlands
Stick inserted into USB3 port (the laptop on which I am testing only has usb3)

After installation of the drivers:
ronald@XPS:~/Downloads$ /opt/bin/mediaclient -e
**** List of Media Hardware Devices ****
device 0: [Sundtek MediaTV Digital Home]  DVB-C, DVB-T, REMOTE-CONTROL
  [SERIAL]:
     ID: ODVBTB
  [DVB-C]:
     FRONTEND: /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0
     DVR: /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0
     DMX: /dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0
  [DVB-T]:
     FRONTEND: /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0
     DVR: /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0
     DMX: /dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0
  [REMOTECONTROL]:
     INPUT0: /dev/mediainput0

Since DVB-T seemed easier to test I started by trying that first. Of course I had set the correct DVB mode first. Kaffeine looked like the easiest to use product for testing, but it didn't show any channels. Next try: scanning for channels based on a predefined list for dvb-t in NL. There is only one frequency I can receive without a smartcard, so I only left this line in the file with transponders. This gave me this result:
start_filter:1361: ERROR: ioctl DMX_SET_FILTER failed: 11 Resource temporarily unavailable
start_filter:1361: ERROR: ioctl DMX_SET_FILTER failed: 11 Resource temporarily unavailable
start_filter:1361: ERROR: ioctl DMX_SET_FILTER failed: 11 Resource temporarily unavailable

I'll only use DVB-C anyway, so I quit trying to fix the simple test case. DVB-C it is. Next test. I set the mode to DVB-C and tried scanning again using the correct transponder list for NL. Again:
ronald@XPS:~/Downloads$ scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-c/nl-Ziggo
scanning /usr/share/dvb/dvb-c/nl-Ziggo
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
initial transponder 372000000 6875000 0 3
initial transponder 514000000 6875000 0 3
initial transponder 356000000 6875000 0 3
initial transponder 369000000 6875000 0 3
>>> tune to: 372000000:INVERSION_AUTO:6875000:FEC_NONE:QAM_64
start_filter:1361: ERROR: ioctl DMX_SET_FILTER failed: 11 Resource temporarily unavailable
start_filter:1361: ERROR: ioctl DMX_SET_FILTER failed: 11 Resource temporarily unavailable
start_filter:1361: ERROR: ioctl DMX_SET_FILTER failed: 11 Resource temporarily unavailable

I was starting to get a bit worried now... Another try: Tvheadend. At least Tvheadend recognized the tv tuner and suddenly a blue light showed up on the tuner. Until now there had been no sign of life on the tuner. Some hope returned... Unfortunately, I'm getting a similar result in Tvheadend when scanning for muxes. It should have found a lot more muxes and as a result a lot of services/channels. The network id is correct. Some screenshots:

Ok, anyone who can tell me where to look for errors? Some idea on how to fix this? Or do I have a product that, unfortunately, was broken from the start?
