Sundtek MediaTV Pro (Europe) / Re:USB errors disabling driver on Raspberry Pi
« am: September 08, 2012, 12:55:12 Nachmittag »
Any error you get in DMESG should be handled as Raspberry PI Bug and filed in their corresponding bugtracking system or even the Linux Kernel Mailinglist.

It took me a while to get the stick running again on the RPi. Raspbian for some kind of reason did not work anymore with the stick and tvheadend. With ArchLinux I get the following error in dmesg:

usb 1-1.3.1: usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd mediasrv rqt 192 rq 0 len 5 ret -845276059

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000030

Considering it's a hardware problem, the distro should not matter too much right?

Almost forgot, Sundtek, thanks for helping us solve these problems. Most could learn a lot from your customer support. I, for one, really appreciate it!

Update:
It crashes much less with:
Zitat
/opt/bin/mediaclient --cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 | /opt/bin/mediaclient --pipecount 1000
Also, watching SD video is possible on some channels, but HD gives only transport errors. Although, I guess when I would map the channels in tvheadend, it would crash again after a while.

Futhermore, I've checked the BER counts and they are 0

Okay, just ordered one! Lets see how it works.
I tried the same and experienced the same issues...
Did you got the new hub already? Any success in using the Raspberry Pi with a Sundtek stick?

Sorry for the late reply. I ordered the wrong HAMA hub, thought it was powered, but it wasn't (or I still had to buy an adapter for it). Hadn't gotten around to order a new one.

But as we speak, I'm testing the settings Sundtek support has sent me. So far so good!

Update: Although searching went better, watching was not possible. I got the usual continuity errors of not being able to cope with the data stream. SD channels were barely watchable and HD was not possible at all.

Thanks guys for finding the culprit. Hope I'll have some time to test that configuration tonight.

We don't even have one, but other customers do and have it running. We only checked it remotely

These were the exact problems I was having. I just gave up in the end.

Did you switch the device to bulk mode?

Zitat
/opt/bin/mediaclient --dtvtransfermode=bulk

Zitat
Can the driver be made a bit more fault tolerant?

not in that case, when the device is gone it's gone from the system the driver won't have access to the device anymore.

So far we tested HAMA USB Hubs and they worked fine for our purpose

you might try to contact us via skype "sundtek" in order to doublecheck that everything is set up to what we would call best setup.

Do you guys have the Raspberry Pi working with tvheadend and the stick? If so, I might very well buy the hub ;)

Note that I haven't tested performance and stability with tvheadend yet. After I test some more I might put a prebuilt image up for the TL-WR1043ND with everything included for a Sundtek / tvheadend setup.

That would be awesome! I'll see what I can try out, although my tinkering skills aren't far as good as yours I see.

Hi Mrkb!

I've been trying the exact same thing and had the same problems with accessing frontend0. I have the same router and OpenWRT installed, but gave up in the end because I couldn't get it going. Another problem I faced was that Tvheadend crashed with presumably a memory issue (segmentation error?).
You're in the Netherlands, right (perhaps Ziggo as well)? I wouldn't mind giving it another shot though, because I would really love to have the router work solo as a kind of decoder.
