Powersaving
« am: August 21, 2012, 05:56:15 Nachmittag »
Hi,

i own a Sundtek MediaTV Pro dvb-c card and use it with tvheadend on opensuse 12.1. I have some questions about the powersaving mode.

How do i know that the card is in powersaving mode? Maybe blue led off?

When exactly does the device go into powersaving mode? Is there some command one can send to the card? Or does it only go into powersaving mode when all file handles to the device are closed? Need all file handles to be closed or is it sufficient to close just the one to the frontend0 device?

Thanks

I think there is no power saving with tvheadend, standby is active when the LED is off.

But standby also requires the application to close the connection to the driver. This is not supposed to be done by tvheadend, it constantly polls and checks for EPG information.
Failure is a good thing! I'll fix it

Youre right, there is no powersaviong with tvheadend atm.. But id like to see it there and would implement it myself. This is why im asking when/how the device decides to go into powersaving mode.
What exactly do you mean by "close the connection to the driver"? Close all file handles?

Exactly, just close the file handles and the device will power down within 15 seconds.

Ok, thank you.
Just to be perfectly clear: Closing the file handles is the only way to let the device go into powesaving mode?
